FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group has announced plans to invest more than €10 billion in France over the upcoming five years, with Chief Executive François Provost revealing this commitment on October 3. This substantial funding aims to bolster electric vehicle production and develop more affordable models, with Renault having produced approximately 500,000 vehicles in France during 2025, and expecting at least a 25% increase in French manufacturing in 2026. Provost emphasized that the scale of this investment hinges on maintaining stable social and political conditions within the country.

Since 2021, Renault Group has already invested €13 billion in France, supporting factories, electric vehicle manufacturing, and related industrial activities. By July 2026, Renault reported that it had manufactured one million electric vehicles in France since 2010, with the ElectriCity hub in northern France accounting for roughly 600,000 of those units. The company currently employs nearly 39,000 people across France and states that its domestic operations sustain around 35,000 jobs within its supplier network.
The automaker operates a comprehensive manufacturing network in France, including assembly plants in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville, while sites in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins support mechanical and industrial processes. Specifically, Douai assembles the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, and Maubeuge produces the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Renault also manufactures electric commercial vehicles at several French facilities, making this network a core element of its electric vehicle production strategy in the home market.
Electric vehicle registrations reach new heights in France
In September, battery electric vehicles accounted for 42% of all new passenger car registrations in France, setting a record monthly share for fully electric cars in the country. During that month, France registered 156,629 new passenger cars, marking approximately a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. For the first nine months of 2026, battery electric models made up about 31% of registrations, a significant rise from near 18% during the same timeframe in the previous year.
This growth aligns with Renault’s production outlook, as electric vehicles are increasingly capturing a larger portion of the French automotive market. The company anticipates at least a 25% boost in output from its French plants this year, and in July, Renault outlined an additional €13 billion investment in France under its futuREady plan, contingent upon appropriate conditions. Provost’s comments in October confirm that the current five-year investment plan exceeds €10 billion, building on the €13 billion Renault has invested domestically since 2021.
French facilities serve as key hubs for Renault’s electric vehicle output
By July 2026, Renault’s ElectriCity sites at Douai and Maubeuge had produced approximately 600,000 electric vehicles, with the Renault 5 E-Tech electric surpassing 100,000 units by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric and electric commercial models. Between 2022 and 2025, ElectriCity added 700 full-time jobs, and by July, an additional 550 temporary workers had been hired at Douai due to increased production activity. The new €10 billion+ investment complements Renault Group’s existing €13 billion expenditure across its French industrial infrastructure since 2021, with expectations for significantly higher domestic vehicle output in 2026 compared to 2025. Provost highlighted that the next five years will see a focus on electric vehicles and more economical car models, coinciding with a year of record electric vehicle market share in France.
